What is a coin's usual daily range?
Every coin moves up and down during a day. Some barely move; others swing by 10% before lunch. A usual daily range tells you how far this particular coin usually goes from where its day opened.
How it's worked out
Take the coin's last year of daily candles. For each day, note how far the high and the low reached from that day's open (the day before's close). Sort those numbers and find the band that held on about two days in three. That band, placed around today's open, is today's usual range.
What it's good for
- Picking a buy price you'd be happy with, near the usual low.
- Picking a take-profit zone near the usual high.
- Noticing an unusual day: when a coin leaves its usual range early, something is different today.
What it isn't
It's not a prediction. About one day in three, the price goes outside it, and it says nothing about which way the coin will move. It measures how much the coin usually moves, from its own history. When we tested it on later prices it hadn't seen, it held about as often as it did on the past.
